Mad SA gifts generous donation

GLEN AUSTIN – Chief executive officer for Mad SA, Chan Naidoo stated that during these challenging times animal welfare organisations and rescue centres experienced difficulties with securing funding.

A Midrand-based non-profit organisation has responded to appeals from local animal welfare groups.

Chief executive officer for Making A Difference South Africa (Mad SA), Chan Naidoo explained that during these challenging times, animal welfare organisations and rescue centres experienced difficulties with securing funding.

An appeal for assistance was published in the Midrand Reporter article Time to aid our furry friends [Week ending 26 March] and an overwhelming number of donations were received. Donations were provided to the Midrand SPCA, Benoni SPCA, Woodrock Animal Rescue and Cause for Paws.

Naidoo said the total value of the goods collected was R40 000. “This charity drive sought to bring relief for the voiceless pets that we seek comfort and friendship from. The sad reality is that in difficult times they are just abandoned.

“Making A Difference South Africa, partnered with Waterfall Car Wash Service and solicited support from the local Waterfall community who rose to the [challenge] to support this charity drive as well as the regular Mad SA donors.”

He added that items provided included cat and dog food, cleaning equipment and materials, stimulation items for animals, pet treats, pet blankets and hosepipes.

Naidoo thanked all donors who contributed towards the work of these selfless entities. “We will appreciate any financial support from individuals and companies, against which a tax certificate will be issued in our ongoing efforts to Make A Difference in Midrand and the wider country.”

Midrand SPCA general manager, Pamela Pretorius welcomed the donations, adding that the organisation was extremely grateful for the kindness and generosity received from Chan Naidoo and Making A Difference South Africa. “With the increase in animals and the decrease in financial support during these trying times, it would be impossible to keep our heads above the water without this kind of support.

“We are truly grateful and words cannot express our appreciation for the continued support that we receive from Mad SA. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and paws,” she said.

She concluded that if people would still like to assist, there is an overwhelming and desperate need for food, blankets and washing powder at the Midrand SPCA.
