Dreamhill learners get active

MIDRAND – Young participants from 2 to 12 years old showed off their physical abilities as they gained momentum from the many cheers which came from their parents, siblings and teachers.

Dreamhill International School in partnership with Cheer Buddyz Sport held an athletics inter-house competition at the school on 17 April.

Cheer Buddyz Sport is a multi-disciplinary sports organisation that offers a different number of sporting codes to schools and pre-schools in Midrand.

The learners between the ages of two and 12 showcased their talents in track and field events including relay races, a bean bag race, a balloon race, crawling, hopping and high jump. Coach Brian Kandemiri of Cheer Buddyz Sport said even though the day was cold, learners and parents showed up to support their school and to enjoy a day of team building and healthy fun.

Ayola Mulaudzi comes first, Tanya Philip second and Toluwaloju Fagbemi third in the flat race for U11 girls.

“The idea was to promote sport to the children. Children who get involved with sports and group activities can learn valuable social skills like cooperation, teamwork, self-confidence, and perseverance. When parents stay plugged into their children’s lives and interests, they can instil confidence in their child as well,” said Kandemiri.

He added that they have introduced a mini ball sports programme for children in Midrand. Children could now learn different types of ball games such as netball, soccer, hockey, volleyball and basketball. “We also have a gymnastics club for young people from two to 13 years old in Midrand. We run these classes on Saturdays and midweek at Dream Hill International school hall and in other respective schools.”

Principal of Dreamhill, Susan van Eerden applauded her learners and said all of them performed well and enjoyed the day to the fullest. “The staff and management would like to thank our parents once again for their continued support, without them, this day and its success would not have been possible.”
