Roadwork nears completion

NOORDWYK – The construction on 9th road in Noordwyk is nearing completion at 97 percent

The construction on 9th Road in Noordwyk is in the last stages with the project at 97 per cent completion.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) Mosa Makhalima said, “The construction is reaching its end, the road will be servicing the community and make life easier.” Makhalima explained that due to the rains in February, the project had been delayed substantially, but the construction is at 97 per cent completion with only road surfacing, road markings, signage and installation of gabions to be done.

The 9th Road project has been ongoing since 2019 following a sod-turning hosted by former City of Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba. For many years the road had been a cause for concern with numerous accidents occurring due to it being a dirt road without any traffic calming measures or robots.

The work to the road began at the end of 2019. “Construction of the road was delayed because of the nature of the landscape and ground conditions on-site, unforeseen national lockdown and compliance regulations as well as heavy rains.

All these factors contributed to the project being delayed.” She concluded, “The JRA would like to apologise for all inconvenience caused and thank all motorists and road users for their patience during this period.”
