Fourways community builder urges locals to donate a book for disadvantaged children

FOURWAYS– Tibbit has urged Fourways community members to donate at least one book in order to promote and inculcate a reading culture in children from disadvantaged communities.

Fourways-based businesswoman and philanthropist, Jaci Tibbit has embarked on a book collection initiative to donate children’s book to disadvantaged communities.

Tibbit said the idea of the Today’s Readers, Tomorrow’s Leaders initiative was born after a Good Samaritan gave her 50 books to be donated to any orphanage of her choice. She explained, “A Fourways resident who is relocating overseas, Sharon Venturini, donated 50 books for us. She wanted me to hand out these books to a home or school where it would be put to great use, as her family had moved overseas and they couldn’t take all her granddaughter’s books with.

“We then decided to donate them to The Starfish Place of Safety, a safe place where vulnerable children are nurtured, protected, guided and restored, a project which falls under Rolemodels Foundation.”

She added that the children were so grateful and happy that they couldn’t stop smiling and held on to their books tightly. “After handing out those books and seeing the excitement on the children’s faces, we have decided to start a book collection called Today’s Readers, Tomorrow’s Leaders book collection initiative aimed at inculcating a culture of reading books to our precious children at The Starfish Place of Safety while they are young.”

“We appeal to all Fourways community members to lend a helping hand by donating old children’s books to help us build our book collection for The Starfish Place of Safety as we believe that every child’s life matters.”
