Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

RABIR RIDGE – Members of the community are encouraged to join hands with the police to eradicate crime by reporting criminals and refrain from taking the law into their own hands

A suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm on 19 February in Kanana.

According to the Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Dipolelo Moremi, at approximately 1pm, while busy with their routine crime prevention patrols, members of their crime prevention unit received information about a suspect who was in possession of a firearm at a licensed liquor outlet in the area.

Moremi said the officers acted swiftly by proceeding to the address. “A male, aged 25 years old, was found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition, the serial number of the firearm was filed off.”

He added that members of the community are encouraged to join hands with the police to eradicate crime by reporting criminals and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

Station Commander Colonel Johanna Ngoma commended the community members who assisted police in bringing the perpetrators to book. Ngoma also applauded the dedicated team of crime prevention members for their work.

Moremi concluded that the suspect would appear at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon for charges relating to illegal firearm possession.
