JRA on the road to completing 9th Road in Noordwyk

NOORDWYK – According to the JRA, Noordwyk can expect the completion of 9th road before the end of December.

There has been progress regarding the construction on 9th Road in Noordwyk with the project about 70 per cent complete.

The project was expected to be complete in June this year, but was stalled due to the Covid-19 national lockdown. It was initiated last year as a measure to mitigate a number of traffic accidents that had occurred on the road.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), Mosa Makhalima said the work done by the contractor was still in line with the approved completion date, with the project expected to conclude by the end of December this year. Makhalima said, “The road layer works to base level have been done on the entire road, except for the section where an open culvert will be installed. The bulk earthworks for the culvert have commenced, setting out for this work is still in progress.”

According to Makhalima, the work that still needs to be done includes priming and surfacing, relocation of existing water and sewer pipes, and casting of concrete for the culvert floor and bus bay construction. There will also be a storm water pipe installed once the storm water network connection was complete.

Makhalima said, “There has been a significant amount of heavy rains which had impacted on the progress of the works. On most occasions after rains, the site has not been workable the next day which forced the contractor to wait for various sections to dry.

“The JRA is still committed to providing a good quality road for the Noordwyk residents.”
