Covid-19: Over 7 400 new cases reported from 8 to 12 November

There were 287 deaths reported from 8 to 12 November due to coronavirus.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases recorded 7 454 new Covid-19 cases in South Africa from 8 to 12 November.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said that by 12 November, over five million people had been tested for coronavirus. During the same time period, there were 287 deaths, 65 of which were recorded on12 November.

The Eastern Cape recorded the highest number of deaths during the week, with 112 reported deaths. The Free State follows with 72 deaths. 

The Western Cape reported 33 deaths while the North West reported 35 deaths. Gauteng reported 12 deaths and KwaZulu-Natal recorded 14 deaths. Mpumalanga and Northern Cape reported three deaths and six deaths respectively. The Free State and Eastern Cape currently have the highest number of active cases in the country with 9 297 and 6 497 cases respectively.

Mkhize said, “We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers that treated the deceased patients. “Our recoveries now stand at 690 903 which translates to a recovery rate of 92.7 per cent.”
