Crisis centre opens doors in Midrand to help abuse victims

NOORDWYK – The Christ Church Crisis and Care centre opened its doors to the community.

The Christ Church Crisis and Care Centre hosted a special event to commemorate their official opening on 27 October.

The centre is an extension of the church which had been running counselling and group therapy for domestic abuse victims and women going through unplanned pregnancy in the area while also working together with the network of other organisations including the Midrand Police Station and the gender-based violence command centre.

Centre manager Kathy Combrinck said that the tragedy of abuse tears families apart, and the centre’s goal is to see relationship and families restored and heal from the scourge of abuse. She added that the centre would like to reach out and assist in healing these families for the benefit of future generations.

Christ Church Midrand Rector Martin Morrison said, “We want to offer love to those who have been ravaged by the sin and pain of this world. We are launching this centre for outreach especially for women and children.”

Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela said, “We, as the police, are very excited about this initiative. At the victim empowerment unit we have one counsellor and assistance from students from the Pearson Institute. So we will be working hand-in-hand with the centre, develop a good relationship and assist those who suffer from abuse.”
