Midrand business gives back to the community

MIDRAND – William Hunt Midrand gives back to their community in tough times.

William Hunt Midrand dealership staff got together to donate food to New Life Centre for Girls in President Park.

New vehicle sales manager at the dealership Adam Loonat said, “On Spring Day, the staff decided to have a dress up and create a charity drive for the event. Staff came together and donated groceries.”

The non-profit organisation supports girls who have been abused or exposed to prostitution and drugs.

Loonat added, “Especially with what’s happening in South Africa due to Covid-19, we found it important to give back to the community.

We were unable to trade for two months and thankfully were able to get back to work and make sales, but unfortunately a lot of South Africans were unable to do so. The staff felt that we should give back to the community.

“We know its tough out there and we know people are suffering. As a community-based business we wanted to donate and give back.”

The staff members were able to collect a number of items such as canned food, milk, rice and sugar among other things.

Loonat believed it was important to give support to a women’s organisation due to the high number of gender-based violence and abuse cases in South Africa.

Founder of the organisation Khopotso Nakin said, “Our direct goal is to make meaningful contributions to these girls’ lives to give them an opportunity to make important contributions to the community.”

The centre currently looks after 19 girls who attend various schools in Midrand.

Nakin added, “We feel so blessed by this donation because we had been hit very hard by Covid-19 and we operated primarily through donations.”

She called on the local community and businesses to assist them with any donations.
