Local police arrest two suspects following high-speed chase

MIDRAND – Two suspects were arrested by following a robbery at a garage in Waterfall.

Midrand Police Station officers arrested two suspects following an armed robbery and high-speed chase on 4 June.

Spokesperson for the station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that the initial incident occurred when the four suspects attempted to rob a customer at a garage in Waterfall. The suspects were spotted and fled the scene.

CEO of Ria Rebetsa Danny Maduray said that their team were patrolling in Waterfall and noticed the suspect’s car driving recklessly. They attempted to flag down the car but the suspects ignored the call.

According to Tlamela, a high-speed chase ensued, led by Ria Sebetsa Security, until the suspect’s car allegedly collided with a barrier on the N1 north near Rivonia Road in Sandton. Tlamela commended the work done by the security company. The police attended the scene and arrested the two suspects, while two others escaped.

Tlamela said that one suspect had suffered a broken hand and was taken to a nearby hospital under police guard while the other suspect was detained at the Midrand Police Station and will appear in court soon. The suspects were charged with attempted robbery, fraud and reckless driving.
