MECs offer their condolences to family of young boy killed in Ivory Park

IVORY PARK – MEC Faith Mazibuko said that she has instructed law enforcement to work around the clock to find the perpetrators.

On 18 April, the acting Gauteng Social Development MEC Panyaza Lesufi, and MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko, visited the families of two children who were recently killed.

The MECs visited the two families in Ivory Park and Orange Farm.

It is alleged that the child from Ivory Park, an 11-year-old boy, went missing on 10 April.  Sadly, two days later the boy’s body was found in a bush in Mayibuye.

In the second instance, a 5-year-old boy’s body was found on the floor inside a tavern on 15 April.

Mazibuko said, “We condemn the gruesome and senseless killing of the children who were found during the lockdown period. Incidents of this nature are becoming a regular occurrence within the province. I have instructed the police to work around the clock to ensure that the perpetrators of these crimes are brought to book to face the full might of the law.”

She said that the body of the boy found in Ivory Park was headless. Due to the seriousness of the case, it is being addressed at a provincial level. “Police have interviewed people… hopefully those that have been interviewed will assist the police in cracking the case.”

Mazibuko added, ” We wish to also call upon the community to help us, because it is in times like this that we need each other. The community might have seen or heard something because the young boy was playing in the street. Of course, it is lockdown so we urge parents to keep their children in their yards.”

Lesufi added,“On behalf of the Gauteng government, we would like to convey our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wish them strength during this time of grief.”
