MIDRAND – Scammer using Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng's name purportedly sends emails from the address: executiveheadoffice@gmail.com and sends text messages from the following number 064 462 2378.

The Office of the Chief Justice wants members of the community to be aware of a scam.

In a media statement published on 31 March, Nathi Mcnube, spokesperson for the South African Judiciary explained that the Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) was made aware of an individual who is fraudulently using the chief justice’s name to scam unsuspecting victims.

“The individual targets people with the aim of soliciting large amounts of money by identifying himself as Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.

“The individual purportedly sends emails from the following email address: executiveheadoffice@gmail.com and sends text messages from the following number: 064 462 2378.”

Mncube said that neither the chief justice nor his office was linked with this email address or to the person claiming to be part of the Office of the Chief Justice. “Stakeholders, members of the public and the media are implored to report any such communication from the above email address or mobile number to the South African Police Service.

“Any person who suspects that they are being scammed by someone claiming to be a judicial officer or an official of the Office of the Chief Justice is requested to contact the Office of the Chief Justice for verification. Enquiries can be emailed to enquiries@judiciary.org.za.”
