Man receives 7-year prison sentence for a Grand Central business break-in

MIDRAND – Man sentenced to seven years' imprisonment after committing a business break-in at his place of work.


A 26-year-old man was found guilty of committing a business break-in at his place of work and being in possession of stolen property and sentenced to seven years’ direct imprisonment.

Kevin Naicker was spotted on 4 January around 5pm, by Constable Isaac Khoza and his crew members who were on crime prevention duty. Naicker was carrying a black plastic bag, walking fast and heading for an area with dense bushes in Grand Central, Midrand.

Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Matome Tlamela, said, “The two police officers followed the suspect and managed to stop him. They searched him and found that he was in possession of some landline phones and cables which he claimed to have taken from his father’s house.

“The police then took him to his father with the alleged stolen items to which the father responded that he does not know [about] the items.”

Tlamela added that, during the investigation, it was established that the accused stole the items from his workplace. Naicker’s employer identified the goods as his.

“The accused appeared in court on 14 February at the Alexandra [Magistrate’s] Court where he was sentenced to seven years’ direct imprisonment,” said Tlamela.
