Cashier helps bust card fraud in Waterfall

MIDRAND – Man sentenced for using a fake card at a clothing store.


A 43-year-old man accused of committing fraud has been sentenced to nine months’ direct imprisonment.

According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Sergent Matome Tlamela, Khumalo Khumbulani was caught using a card that did not belong to him to purchase goods worth R3 587.80 at a clothing store at a mall in Waterfall. “A cashier from the store noticed that the card was fraudulent. They contacted the real owner of the account but the owner confirmed that he had his card with him at that moment.

“The cashier delayed the suspect and called the police. When police arrived, they arrested the suspect, confiscated the card and booked it as an exhibit.”

She concluded, “The accused appeared at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on 14 February where he was then sentenced to nine months’ direct imprisonment.”
