Midrand Knights Cricket Club aims for hat-trick of trophies

MALBORO – Local cricket club tops the table in three divisions and takes their trophies as 'almost a given'.

Midrand Knights Cricket Club aims to secure three trophies at the end of this cricket season, a period marked with strength through adversity for the club.

The club based at Malboro Stadium saw a breakaway at the start of the season, where two teams of players and some committee members left to start the Sandton Rebels.

Despite this, the Midrand Knights have fielded full-competitive teams in all its divisions and looks to finish with an even more successful season than last year. “We have six to eight games left for our teams and our Saturday 4 and 6 and Sunday 3 teams, which are all top of the table, will win, it is almost a given,” boasted club chairperson, TK Chettiar.

“It has been a very good season for us. I can thank the great management team in place and our committed cricketers.”

Chettiar explained that the executive committee had always ensured the best teams were selected to match their every opponent, and pitches were prepared to take advantage of every opponent’s weakness.

“We have the Malboro Stadium booked for every Saturday and Sunday for the cricket season and we are also playing much of our cricket at Hilson Park, University of Johannesburg and sometimes at Alexandra Cricket Club.”

Furthermore, the club has strengthened its relationship with the Central Gauteng Lions, which provided the club with new pitch covers, boundary ropes and two team dugouts at the stadium.

Chettiar invited anyone interested, whether young or old, man or woman, boy or girl, to join the club to play cricket.

Midrand Knights will play home games at Malboro Stadium this Saturday, 29 February, at 1pm and Sunday 1 March at 10am, for anyone interested in watching or finding out more.
