Seeds for change are planted at Noordwyk Secondary School

MIDRAND – Seed non-profit organisation visited Noordwyk Secondary School learners to plant trees of life.

The School Educational and Environmental Development (Seed) Thru Arts non-profit organisation visited the Noordwyk Secondary School on 21 February to instil a culture of prayer and worship in the lives of the learners.

The foundation was founded by Jamela John Ross and his wife Meghan Erasmus last year to share the importance of caring for the environment, their surroundings and themselves.

Ross said they visited the school to plant a spiritual seed with the kids, as well as to donate a brand-new laptop after the school’s computers were stolen. “We feel it is very important to help our kids connect with God, because nowadays we believe our kids are getting lost and a lot of things are happening within our schools because that prayer life has been taken out of the schools. Which entails that young people do not have a good relationship with God.”

Ross said that they are not just planting a spiritual seed but also physical trees as well so that while the learners nurture those trees, it also resembles the growth of their lives. “We are planting six trees, one lemon, two peach, one apple and two indigenous trees that are going to be inside the premises, with these fruit trees.

“Just as they take care of these trees, if they take care of themselves they will bear good fruits in their lives.”

Ross concluded that since the organisation started, they have been able to see 16 500 kids within schools.

Natasha Dibakwani a learner from the school said, “Most importantly, they taught us that we should learn to pray and stay away from alcohol and drugs.”
