The upgrade to 9th Road in Noordwyk is now 37 per cent complete

NOORDWYK – The 9th Road upgrade project is currently 37 per cent complete and is expected to finish in June.

The upgrade to 9th Road in Noordwyk is 37 per cent complete with the project set to conclude in June.

The project was initiated last year following a number of accidents on the gravel road due to reckless driving and poor traffic-calming measures on the road as reported in the Midrand Reporter article, 9th Road makes good progress [Week ending 24 January].

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency Mosa Makhalima said, “The project is currently at 37 per cent. Progress has been slower than anticipated due to the final leg of environment authorisation that was expected last year October.”

He added, “This outstanding authorisation has affected the installation of the last portion of the storm water system. Further, the recent heavy rains as from November 2019 have also impacted progress. We remain hopeful that the project will be completed by the end of June 2020.”

Makhalima said that, to date, 61 per cent of the storm water system has been installed but the section which requires special environment authorisation will remain untouched until then. Once authorisation is received, it will take an additional two months to finish the remaining storm water line.

He concluded, “The Johannesburg Road Agency is committed to providing service delivery to Ward 112 and will ensure the success of this project. We request that the public be patient and know that we are constantly in touch with the relevant department and stakeholders for the successful completion of this project.”
