Ekhuruleni North District’s tactical response team deployed in Ivory Park‘s policing precinct arrested five suspects on 29 January.
The suspects were found in possession of a hijacked vehicle.
According to Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane, the team managed to locate and arrest the five suspects whose ages range from 21 to 50 at Busy Corner in Ebony Park.
“The vehicle in which the group was travelling in was found to have been hijacked in Phokeng, North West and has been fitted with false registration numbers to disguise its true identity and origin,” he said.
“The suspects have been arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and are currently in the Ivory Park SAPS cells pending their appearance at Tembisa Magistrates’ Court. Details surrounding their motives and the nature of the criminal activity they were planning will be thoroughly investigated.”

Matimulane added that the suspects’ cell phones were confiscated so that information on the devices could be downloaded as part of additional investigations
Ivory Park police commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo welcomed the arrests and has commended the police officers for pursuing information given to them that led to the apprehension of the suspects.
“The fact that the vehicle has only been found now, with false registration number plates, clearly shows us what kind of people we are dealing with. They are not afraid to tamper with the evidence to disguise their evil intentions,” said Ngcobo.
