Midrand Police arrest man for rape of eight-year-old girl

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man following the rape of an eight-year-old girl.

A spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the incident occurred over December last year when the victim visited friends in Diepsloot along with her brother.

Tlamela said that the child was playing in the garden. When her brother went inside the house, the neighbour came out of his house and allegedly dragged the victim inside where he undressed and raped her.

She added that the complainant, the mother of the victim, reported that the victim had changes in her behaviour and was struggling at school. The victim told her brother about the incident, who then relayed the details to the complainant who opened a case at the Midrand Police Station.

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested by the Midrand police and charged with rape.
