Police launch manhunt for two suspects after shooting on Midrand’s New Road

MIDRAND – The victims were followed by a black SUV from the N1 highway.

A manhunt has been launched by the police to find two suspects who are believed to have been involved in the shooting on New Road in Midrand this afternoon.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela, said the incident occurred when the victims were followed by a black SUV from the N1 highway. The suspects fired three shots at the victims.

One victim was wounded in the mouth, airlifted to the Milpark Hospital and later died from the wounds sustained. A passenger was shot in the chest, was taken to another hospital and is in a stable condition.

A firearm was recovered from the victim’s car and was licenced to the deceased.

Emergency services and Metro police were on the scene diverting traffic at an active crime scene on New Road, Midrand, today 28 January.

Police were seen taking down statements while Emer-G-Med and Care Well EMS are also on the scene.

Lead paramedic from Emer-G-med Karien Naude said they received a call about the incident just after 12pm. When they arrived, municipal emergency services were on the scene treating one of two critical patients who was shot in the chest. Emer-G-med immediately tended to the other critical patient who had sustained a gunshot wound to the face. They administered treatment and arranged for the patient to be airlifted to Milpark Hospital.

Naude added that they received a lot of assistance from emergency services who all worked well together.
