Ward 78 councillor Steven Makamo wishes everyone a merry Christmas

IVORY PARK – Ward 78 councillor Steven Makamo shares his message for this Christmas, while also reflecting on the year.

Ward 78 councillor Steven Makamo shares some of the concerns for his ward as the community enters the festive season:

For the whole of 2019, 70 per cent of streetlights have not been functional despite them being reported to City power. Pickitup has also struggled to keep to the schedule in terms of round collection, as a result, people end up dumping everywhere.

Provision of water to households has been cited as a problem in the following sections: Jacob Zuma Section, Mafelandawonye 2 Section, Mpumalanga Section and part of Ramaphosa Section during the course of this year. The Ivory Park stadium remains a haven for criminals since the exit and entrance points are not controllable, despite it being reported to the community development department.

Speed humps remain a course for concern, which resulted in communities in every street in the numerous sections signing petitions requesting the City of Johannesburg’s intervention.

Other concerns include failure of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department in enforcing by-laws and failure by Eskom to meet with its customers to explain challenges they face which result in power outages and damage to infrastructure. The re-occurrence of sewer blockages remains a challenge despite the education on the usage.

I must say, it has been a tough year for myself as a ward councillor and the residents of Ward 78 in as far as service delivery issues are concerned. However, I would like to wish the residents of Ward 78 a merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. For those who are going home please drive safely. I am looking forward to working with you in the new year.
