Police catch key ‘thief’

HALFWAY HOUSE – The police officers searched the suspect and recovered the keys.

Police arrested a 26-year-old suspect for the theft in Halfway House on 5 September.

According to the spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela, the arrest was made at a garage on Richards Drive. She said, “A truck driver went to the garage to fill up with diesel. While he was about to pay for the diesel, a gentleman known to him greeted him.”

Tlamela added that when the truck driver wanted to leave the garage, he noticed that the truck keys were missing. “One of the petrol attendants told the complaint that the person he was talking to is the one who took the keys. The truck driver confronted the suspect, however, he denied the allegations.”

The police were called to the scene and searched the suspect who was found in possession of the keys. The suspect was arrested and charged with theft and will appear in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court soon.
