Pinnacle College Kyalami joined Coastal Ghost, a non-profit organisation known for cleaning the South African coastline, to pick up litter on Caracal Road on 27 June.
Stefan Graunke, the founder of Coastal Ghost briefed the Grade 5 and 6 learners on the importance of caring for the environment and picking up litter before it ends up in the oceans. Coastal Ghost does two coastal cleanups a year between Richards Bay and Cape Town and hosts community clean-ups closer to home every two weeks.
Eighteen big bags were collected by the group within an hour, the learners even had some energy left to sing a song about caring for the planet to Graunke afterward.
Cheryl Naidoo, the principal for Pinnacle College, Pre-primary and Preparatory School concluded, “We would like to continue cleaning up our surrounding area on an ongoing basis, this was a great start.”
