MIDRAND – Christ Church College hosted parents and learners for a dinner and theatre evening.

Christ Church College in Midrand hosted an evening of good food and theatre on 20 June.

The event was initiated by the school’s music, drama and hospitality studies departments as part of the matric hospitality studies learners’ portfolio work. Head of the school’s hospitality studies department Debby Hunter said that these evenings give the Grade 10 to matric learners the opportunity to take part in every part of the kitchen from cooking to waiting.

The menu called for the matrics to prepare a four-course meal to put their entire theory knowledge into practice with assistance from Grade 11 and 10 learners who will also be hosting their own evenings. The menu started with a smoked butternut soup with bobotie for mains and a dessert of spiced panna cotta and baklava.

Drama learners Caitlin Lock, La-Tavia Rajah and Katherine Drossopoulos perform an experimental piece on toxic masculinity.

This evening was the second time the school brought music and drama together in the dinner evenings.

According to Hunter, bringing all the faculties together gives parents an opportunity to become more involved at the school and to bring greater attendance to the school’s music evenings.

Deputy principal of the school Lisle Twaddle said, “These evenings give our students a taste of the hospitality industry in the real world. These events really do prepare them for any future careers.

“It is a joy to watch them, to observe their passion and to see how they have grown in confidence and ability.”
