Stolen dog is recovered and returned to the Midrand SPCA, 2 suspects arrested

MIDRAND – Two suspects involved in a burglary at the Midrand SPCA have been arrested.

The Midrand SPCA is happy to report that two of the three suspects involved in a burglary at their property have been arrested and they have retrieved a stolen dog.

The burglary occurred on 26 March when three suspect entered the property using bolt cutters. The suspects stole food, toys, blankets and a cat litter. General manager Pam Pretorius said, “The biggest devastation to our team though, was that the intruders returned on the same night and stole one of our dogs.”

She added, “More than a month had gone by since the theft and loss of goods and our dog, but although all may have seemed to have died down and be forgotten, our team never once gave up on finding our missing animal.

“We promised ourselves and our supporters that we would not give up this dog and that we would do everything possible to find him.”

On 6 May a number of staff members from the Midrand SPCA joined an operation with the Ivory Park police. The dog was found at an undisclosed location. Pretorius said, “Our dog was being kept among the rubble and dirt, chained, lying under a tin sheet of roofing. We were greeted by a very skinny, sad looking dog.”

Spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station Captain Bernard Matimulane said, “Two suspects were arrested for the burglary which took place in March at SPCA.”

Pretorius thanked the Ivory Park police for their support and the hardworking team at the Midrand SPCA including inspectors Jerry Seemise and Theo Mokgatle. She added, “We are proud to call them our team and we thank them for their dedication and determination in their fight for the animals.”
