Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba meets 12-year-old author

JOHANNESBURG – Joburg mayor meets a young, award-winning author.

Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba recently met with 12-year-old author Stacey Fru.

Fru published three books by the age of 11 and won an Arab and African Youth Platform Award in Egypt for being one of five most promising African youths.

According to a statement from the City of Johannesburg, Fru told the mayor that she plans to publish two more books by July 2019.

“Her books focus on educating young African children on safety issues like kidnapping. She writes with the view of capturing the attention of young children, understanding full well what works and what does not,” the City said in the statement.

According to the statement, she also encourages her peers to look up to other African figures for inspiration and not necessarily only to the West.

Mayor Mashaba said he was honoured to have met Stacey, a fellow-author. “This is the future I am trying to protect,” he said.
