There’s no passing the buck at wildlife hospital

KYALAMI – Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital treats indigenous animals free of charge, relying solely on the donations and support of our community.

Two steenbok orphans are being nurtured at Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital.

The hospital’s wildlife rehabilitation specialist Nicci Wright said they were in the process of nurturing one orphaned steenbok (raphicerus campestris) when another one was brought in.

“Unfortunately, the other steenbok [recent arrival] could not be reunited with his family either, so we have decided to nurture both of them at our hospital. At the moment the two are thriving on their milk formula.”

Wright added that as soon as the two animals were weaned, they would be placed in a pre-release enclosure for their ultimate release.

“We treat indigenous animals free of charge, relying solely on the donations and support of our community.”
