City distributes 60 title deeds in Ivory Park despite alleged disruption by protesters dressed in ANC regalia

MIDRAND – The City was able to distribute 60 title deeds in total.

The Midrand ANC Zone 15 has distanced itself from the alleged disruption caused by protesters dressed in ANC regalia at a title deeds handover event on 9 November in Ivory Park.

“It was not a mandate of the ANC to disrupt the event. We were aware of the programme to hand over title deeds. The ANC is in the revolution of developing the livelihood of the people,” said the secretary of the Midrand ANC Zone 15, Lekwane Phasha.

“We cannot disrupt an event that seeks to develop the lives of our masses,” Phasha added.

According to a statement released by the office of the MMC for Housing councillor Meshack van Wyk, the protesters prevented him from handing over title deeds to beneficiaries after they allegedly interrupted the event.

A total of 90 title deeds were to be handed over to beneficiaries including a number of elderly persons.

“The Title Deeds Programme is one of the key priorities of this administration and as a government that delivers, the department sought to ensure that our residents were given the dignity of owning a home,” said Van Wyk.

“The ANC’s conduct at the event is yet another illustration of their disdain for our residents and their needs.”

He added that the event was also aimed to serve as a platform for the Department of Housing to address key concerns held by the community, particularly, the development of plans that will address those needs.

“Despite the ANC’s unacceptable disruption of the event, the City was able to distribute 60 title deeds in total. The City is making additional arrangements to ensure that the remaining beneficiaries receive their title deeds,” concluded Van Wyk.

Ganyane Sibindi holds his tittle deed handed over by MMC Meshack van Wyk.
