#HaveYourSay: Do you think the City’s fire department has the capacity to fight big fires?

MIDRAND – In the wake of the recent fire at the Bank of Lisbon building in the Johannesburg CBD which resulted in the death of three firefighters, we asked Midrand residents if they think the City's fire department has the capacity to fight big fires. This is what they had to say ...

NANCY NYAKALE: No, they don’t have the capacity to fight a big fire like that one. They also did not have enough water which was a major problem.
ANTHONY NEL: Clearly they do not have the capacity, otherwise there wouldn’t have been people who died from the fire.
The fireman tried their best. Unfortunately, they did not have enough manpower and resources to fight the fire.
They are not equipped to deal with major disasters. Government needs to create more infrastructure and get more resources.
Due to the recent incident, I highly doubt that they are in a position to handle major disasters.
They don’t have the capacity to handle big disasters. They should have called the defence force early to assist.
The fire department does not have enough equipment which is the reason they respond late sometimes.
