Nyaope and ammo found in Rabie Ridge

MIDRAND – A total of 107 live rounds of ammunition were found in a house.

An integrated police operation between Rabie Ridge police and the Metro police led to the seizure of live ammunition, pistols and drugs in the month of July.

Spokesperson for the Rabie Ridge Police Station Captain Mofana Masela said a total of 107 live rounds of ammunition and four 9mm pistols were found at a house in Rabie Ridge. “We call on community members to come forward with information of illegal firearms in the area. This will help to reduce the number of robberies and other crimes,” he said.

Furthermore, 15 kg of different types of drugs were confiscated after a stop-and-search operation around Rabie Ridge, Kanana, Phomolong and Mayibuye. This follows a tip-off from community members. The drugs included nyaope, dagga and cat.

“Nyaope is a prevalent drug around the area and affecting mostly young people. The police have dedicated themselves to fighting the scourge of drugs and request various stakeholders to come on board and work with us to rid our streets of the illegal substances,” said Masela.

Masela encouraged local organisations and community leaders to establish skills programmes to help young people develop themselves and stay away from drugs.
