SA U15 action cricket boys ready for action

MIDRAND – South Africa's best action cricket youngsters need some help getting to the Junior World Series.

Midrand Action Sports played host to South Africa’s best budding action cricket talent during a national training camp.

The SA U15 boys side made a day of it at the venue, as players batted, bowled and fielded to impress and perfect their techniques on 14 July.

The team is preparing for the Junior World Series to be held in New Zealand at the end of September.

The class before these lads finished runners-up last year.

Australia is the reigning champion and favourite again this year.

“I have coached three junior sides and this is the best of them all,” said head coach, Marc Ongers, himself a former SA action cricket player.

“This team is strong in all three departments: batting, bowling and fielding. I want us to at least reach the final.”

He said Australia is very good at action cricket and New Zealand will be strong at home, so to reach the final will take some doing.

Team captain, Christopher Pistorius said his side’s energy and determination will help them get there.

“Our greatest challenge at the world series will be coping under pressure and in a hostile atmosphere, where there will be verbal abuse directed at us,” said the youngster.

“We will try to stay composed and block it all out.”

Ongers added that the entire tour is self-funded, with no support from the government.

The team is trying to raise R50 000 per player for travel, accommodation, food and game fees.

There are 12 players planning on going to New Zealand, along with three coaches and a manager.

If anyone is able to help support the team in any way, they can contact Ongers.
