Midrand Primary School competes in Teatro Arti Eisteddfod

MIDRAND – Midrand Primary School's drama club competed at the Teatro Arti Eisteddfod organised by the National Arts Association.

 

Midrand Primary School Speech and Drama Club competed at the Teatro Arti Eisteddfod organised by the National Arts Association, which is based at the Live Arts Little Theatre (Lalt) Theatre in Boksburg.

The local schoolchildren performed in five categories:

• A contemporary monologue titled, Making up Stories by a Grade 5 child, Kuhlekonke Nzimande, obtained 89 per cent.

• A dramatic monologue titled,

12 Years Wise by Grade 5’s Onam Sithole, received 91 per cent

• A classical monologue titled, The Sunset Princess by Grade 6’s Ngwanatheko Nkopodi, also received 91 per cent

• The senior phase category

titled, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Zizo Sobutyu and Ndivho Hlungwani obtained 92 per cent and 91 per cent with their

dialogue titled, Say No.

• The choral verse group made

up of schoolchildren from grades 6 to 7, including Boitumelo

Maake, Onam Sithole, Kuhlekonke Nzimande,

Sibusisiwe Gama, Lwandle Ngcobo, Zizo Sobutyu, Ngwanatheko Nkopodi and Ndivho Hlungwani were the winners with 94 per cent.

They earned themselves an

invite to the gala dinner that

was held on 30 April at the theatre.

Drama club captain, Ndivho Hlungwani in Grade 6, was given the opportunity to direct the first three categories as she has previously performed all three monologues.

“We are very proud of the achievement of our art learners. Our school is fast becoming popular for its art activities and these performances serve as a build-up to our annual internal Midrand Lebone Schools Play Festival,” said drama teacher Brian Jokozela.
