Night Adder found slithering on bags in airport’s cargo area

KYALAMI – Friends of Free Wildlife shared the news on its Facebook page.

Friends of Free Wildlife took to their Facebook page to share news of a Night Adder snake that was found slithering on bags in the cargo area of an airport.

It is unclear at which airport the snake was found and this website is following up on the incident, however, the Friends of Free Wildlife shared that the snake is safe.

The post on their Facebook page reads:

“Airport Company of South Africa (ACSA) staff had a memorable (but in a bad way) ‘day at the office’.

“This snake was slithering on bags in the cargo area!

“A Night Adder (Causus rhombeatus)

“ACSA Wildlife Department was called and the snake was brought to FFW. Claudius Sibanda, Senior Animal Manager set up an enclosure where it could settle down, be observed, and photographed.

“Claudius called Shaun Hefer of RAWR (Reptile and Wildlife Release) who received the picture and confirmed the ID. The snake was in great condition and healthy, and he recommended immediate release.

“Gareth Cooke, who is a volunteer for RAWR, collected the beautiful snake from FFW and released it into a safe conservancy.

“It’s wonderful to have this sort of collaboration with people like RAWR. How different the outcome COULD have been for this Night Adder without cooperation between our wildlife groups.

“Always for the benefit of our wildlife,” read the post.
