Rabie Ridge set on addressing challenges

MIDRAND – Rabie Ridge Police Station commander adamant on strengthening the relationship between the community and the police.

Station commander Colonel Johanna Ngoma recently joined Rabie Ridge Police Station from Kempton Park Police Station.

Ngoma said she is enjoying her new post and the area even though there are high requirements and challenges to decrease crime in the area.

“I strongly believe in teamwork and therefore I aim to build a strong relationship between the community and police officers.”

Ngoma did mention that there is a huge stigma surrounding the police force whereby people no longer believe in their police’s ability to protect the community and therefore becomes challenging for the community to trust the police with tip-offs and information that might lead to arrests.

“The station is in desperate need of informers because the truth is, for most crimes committed someone knows something that may lead to a suspect being apprehended, because these criminals are not strangers – they live among us.”

My mandate and that of every officer is to ensure the safety of the community, bring perpetrators to book and prevent crime.

“I urge all residents to be aware of their surroundings for their own safety and I also encourage them to report all forms of crime regardless of how small, big or insignificant they may seem.

The station commander was pleased to say that there has been a slight decrease in aggravated robberies but stated that the station is yet to compile its crime statistics.
