Ayanda spotted for online TV show

MIDRAND – Sharing Mbatha's story with the world would open doors for her.

A violin player from Ivory Park, Ayanda Mbatha has been spotted for a documentary on the Dream Afrikan Child programme on New Afrika online TV.

Mbatha’s story was first featured in the Midrand Reporter about three months ago about her passion for music and playing the violin. Her love for the instrument began at the age of 14 where she learned to play it at Eqinisweni Secondary School. On 10 February, an anonymous donor donated her old violin for Mbatha to have and to play whenever she pleased.

“We have a programme called Dream Afrikan Child where we find talented people like Ayanda and show their talents to the entire world,” said content director for New Afrika TV, Ethan Kafwani.

Kafwani said sharing Mbatha’s story to the world would give her global exposure which could open doors for her. “Every artist needs exposure and I believe the Midrand Reporter took the first step by allowing her to share her story. I believe by the time we are done with telling her story through the video interview, she will have a lot of exposure internationally. This will not only limit her to the music world but film industry too,” he added.

The 22-year-old who aspires to become part of an orchestra said she was excited about the opportunity and feels that it is going to lead to greater things for her music career. “I am so excited. I cannot wait!” she said.

She also featured in the Standard Bank’s Joy of Jazz camp festival in 2012.
