Help Naledi become South Africa’s inspiration

MIDRAND – She has decided to take a gap year to pursue other interests.

Naledi Matlakala (18) is a community-driven finalist in the Miss Inspire SA pageant who needs your votes to succeed in the race.

The vibrant contestant from Noordwyk completed her matric with a bachelor’s pass at Midrand High School last year. She has decided to take a gap year to pursue other interests.

The Miss Inspire SA pageant celebrates strong, committed young women who are willing to represent the community as a goodwill ambassador, becoming a role model of today while strengthening the country for tomorrow.

“In many ways, the pageant has given me a great starting point to finding what my calling in life is because, through it, I have grown and have been exposed to so many great opportunities,” she said.

Matlakala said through the pageant she has embarked on her own literacy campaign called ‘Tlhalefang’ which was driven by her love for reading and books. “This campaign aims to promote the nature of reading, preferably in young people. A strong reading foundation will see them right through their school years and will ultimately determine their academic success”.

Naledi Matlakala is a finalist in the Miss Inspire SA Teen.

Tlhalefang has already engaged in its first project called #Roadto150. The purpose of the project is to collect a minimum of 150 books in a period of 43 days beginning on 16 February.

“It’s the first of many to come. All in all, I am simply calling on the community of Midrand for assistance and kindly asking for donations of books –books that the Tlhalefang campaign is hoping to give to a school without a library or reading facilities of some sort.”

She also called on sponsors interested in funding or assisting with her projects including the #Queens initiative, which aims to empower girls by assisting them on their journey of becoming their best version of themselves, through sanitary pad drives and more.

She also has the #FillUpTheBuckets project where she collects basic food items to give as food parcels to at least 40 disadvantaged families.

“Honestly, any assistance of any kind is truly welcome.”

To vote for her, SMS ‘Win Naledi’ to 47439 and visit the Tlhalefang page on Facebook and tlhalefang.tfl on Instagram.
