Councillor expelled for alleged fraud

MIDRAND – The councillor was arrested on fraud and corruption charges.

The ANC in Region A is currently screening four nominees to replace a candidate after Ward 92 councillor Leepile Motsumi was expelled for allegations of the illegal sale of land.

Motsumi was suspended from the party after facing fraud and corruption charges for the illegal sale of land in Kaalfontein to the value of R210 000. He was arrested on 17 October last year and expelled by the party in the same month.

Secretary for the ANC in Zone 15, Lekwane Phasha said all four candidates are credible members of the party. “The screening committee has taken them for interviews to identify their potential. At the moment the branch is awaiting the final decision from the regional list committee,” he said. Bi-elections are expected to take place in April this year.

Motsumi is accused of selling two stands to the value of R80 000 and R130 000 respectively. One of the victims who bought the land was allegedly stopped by residents who disclosed that the land was earmarked for a communal soccer field.
