At approximately 11.35pm on Monday evening, 22 January, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting in the veld near to Forssman Close and Dytchley Road in Barbeque Downs.
The victim alleged that he was patrolling the veld on foot behind some businesses when he was attacked by a group of men and there was an exchange of gunfire.
The 60-year-old security officer was shot multiple times.
He was brought to the edge of the veld near to the garage station and help was summoned.
He was in a serious condition and was attended to by a Netcare 911 team consisting of an ambulance crew and an Advanced Life Support Paramedic who administered analgesic medication to manage the victim’s pain.
Once stabilized, he was transported swiftly to a hospital for urgent care.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
