Noordwyk Primary School learners volunteer to clean up

NOORDWYK – The cleanup was part of the City of Johannesburg's A Re Sebetseng campaign.

Ward 112 Councillor Madeleine Hicklin lead a cleanup near Noordwyk Primary School in Midrand on 20 January starting at 9am, with assistance from community members and a team of learners from Noordwyk Primary School who volunteered.

The cleanup was part of the City of Johannesburg’s A Re Sebetseng campaign.

“I am so happy that some of the pupils are assisting with this initiative because this will encourage other pupils to play a role in ensuring that their community is clean and will also create a better relationship between me and the school,” said Hicklin.

The pupils were very excited and energetic to be part of such an initiative but were even more pleased that the area around their school will now be child-friendly and parents can rest assured that there are no health risks when their children walk to and from school.

Some of the pupils shared their opinion, including Natalie Mutambanesango, who said, “I think this cleanup is a good idea because the veld next to the school is very dirty.” She was followed by Goboitshepo Lolwane who shared her views on the initiative stating, “Cleaning up is a big opportunity for all of us to play a role in benefiting the community, so I encourage all residents to take it upon themselves to stop littering and to advise anyone else who is seen littering, to do the same.”
