Alleged Kanana murderer set to appear in court soon

MIDRAND – Man arrested by Rabie Ridge detective and faces charges of murder, arson and damage to property.

Following the article, Police warn: Don’t solve your problems with anger and alcohol, published week ending 8 December last year, the suspect has been arrested.

According to the article, a jealous ex-boyfriend allegedly burned down a house in Kanana belonging to his ex-girlfriend’s mother on 2 December and subsequently killed his ex-girlfriend who was in the residence at the time of the incident.

The suspect was arrested by detective Warrant Officer Cedric Mphahlele on 10 January and has been charged with murder, arson and malicious damage to property.

Further details released by Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Captain Matsobane Masela revealed that the suspect committed damage to the property on 23 November last year but continued his rage of jealousy on 2 December when he allegedly burned down the house in an attempt to kill his ex-girlfriend.

“The ex-girlfriend succumbed to her burn wounds at Tembisa Hospital a couple of days after the unfortunate incident,” said Masela.

The suspect is due to appear in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon.
