UPDATE: Midrand SPCA is flooded with support

MIDRAND – Midrand's SPCA will soon be a safe haven again thanks to the generosity from Ria Sebetsa Security Services and caring community members.

Following a tragic incident at Midrand SPCA, overwhelming support has flooded in from residents.
According to Ivory Park police, on 20 August, an employee of the agency was at work when a white Nissan bakkie arrived at the gate. The employee opened the gate thinking the occupants of the car were looking to adopt a dog.

However, once he approached the vehicle after it had parked at the premises he was surprised when one of four armed occupants pointed a firearm at him. The employee was then taken to the nearby veld where he was tied up, while the other three suspects searched the building. The victim’s two cellphones were stolen as well as a micro oven, an undisclosed amount of cash and laptops.

Donations have been flooding in from all corners of Midrand, making it possible for the organisation to carry on with its work.  A complete CCTV surveillance system was donated by Roger and Anelle Hills, a couple who escaped a recent attempted hijacking.

Ria Sebetsa offered the organisation complete protection and guarding services. The security company also offered armed response services as well as panic buttons free of charge.

“On behalf of the Midrand SPCA, the staff and management committee we would like to extend a massive thank you to the public and our community for opening their hearts and supporting the Midrand SPCA in this time of need.

Shots were fired at the building.

“We are overwhelmed and humbled with the support received to date and no words can explain our gratitude. It is so humbling to see people stand behind us and we thank you all for everything that you have done,” said Brenda Lucas of the organisation.

Ivory Park police are investigating a business robbery case and are appealing for information from the public. The organisation is urging the public to donate laptops, computers, safes, security lights, cellphones, 5 port USB hub, dongles, intercom system and burglar bars.
