King’s Court Church spreads love at Dr Miriam Makeba Centre for Girls
MIDRAND – Dr.Mirriam Makeba Centre for Girls has felt the love from King's Court Church through their initiative to bridge the gap between humanity and divinity.
Members of the King’s Court Church spent the day at the Dr Miriam Makeba Centre for Girls on 1 May and spread love to 17 girls by spoiling them with clothing and food.
The initiative by the church named, It’s a love thing, has been established to bridge the gap between humanity and divinity. “This is a beginning of a new relationship that will benefit the girls who represent the future leaders of South Africa,” said the senior pastor of the church, Raphael Ukaegbu.

Ukaegbu said the church was delighted and honoured to have forged a relationship with the centre which was founded to provide a home for destitute and abused girls between the ages of 11 and 18 years. “This is the true meaning of what Christianity is all about as we are called to make a meaningful difference to ordinary citizens of our beloved country,” he added.
The centre was founded by legendary singer Miriam Makeba to cater for the needs of the girls by providing a home environment, professional counselling and support, practical vocational training and life skills development services to enable the girls to become self-sufficient and to prepare them for re-integration into society.
Other activities the church has planned for the centre is a career day and each member of the church has adopted a girl that they have committed to pray for on an ongoing basis.
The centre’s counsellor and house mother Maud Hlophe said they were elated that the church had extended their efforts not only to pray for the girls but to lessen the load of supporting the girls.
“Their reaching out to us has shown us that there are religious organisations that care to demonstrate what true love is. We look forward to working with them and are honoured to have them reach out to us,” she said.
