Secure your houses, warns Midrand security company

MIDRAND – Burglaries have increased on weekends and during the day and take two to four minutes to occur

Ria Sebetsa Security Services chief executive officer, Danny Maduray warned Midrand residents to increase security in and around their houses as burglaries in the area have increased.

Maduray said while most people worry about night-time security only, more statistics are pointing towards frequent burglaries occurring during the day.

“We have noticed burglaries, particularly, break-ins on the rise, especially over weekends. Within minutes of residents leaving their homes, burglars penetrate their properties and common items such as plasma screens and computers are stolen. Most often than not, these victims have house alarms. The break-in normally takes not more than two to four minutes to occur,” Maduray said.

He further reminded residents to be vigilant at all times, adding that while people are at work, school, or running everyday errands, it was important to take safety measures at all times and to make certain that residences remain protected.

“Homeowners and residents are encouraged to make sure that home alarms are serviced often and the battery is replaced at least every six months, including batteries that must be changed on your panic remotes,” he added.

Maduray suggested the following safety tips:

  • Instal an alarm system
  • Instal burglar bars on opening and non-opening windows and doors
  • Instal a deadbolt lock on the inside of the front door
  • Instal outdoor beams or sensor lights
  • Instal a camera system.
