Animal neglect in parking lot of a mall in Midrand

MIDRAND – A woman locked her dog in the car for about an hour with no open windows at the Mall of Africa.

 

 

A woman was reported to the Midrand SPCA by a concerned member of the public for locking her dog in a car with closed windows on 5 March at the Mall of Africa.

According to the complainant, the woman had allegedly left her dog in the car for about an hour at midday.

Midrand SPCA inspector, Jerry Seemise said by the time they arrived at the Mall of Africa the woman had already left. He added that the SPCA is trying to track the woman down so that a warning can be issued to her.

The inspector said, “This incident has made the SPCA see a need in having posters around parking areas, educating people on what not to do when travelling with an animal because nobody is allowed to leave an animal in a car regardless, of the windows being open or closed.

“The temperature in a car can rise very high in a short space of time.”
