Hijackers sentenced to a combined 27 years

MIDRAND – Three hijackers sentenced by the Tembisa Magistrates' Court for a combined 27 years.

 

The Ivory Park police are pleased with the combined 27-year prison sentences handed down to three men from Tembisa on 25 January in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court.

The men were sentenced for a hijacking committed in Ivory Park Ext 10 in October 2015.

Lucky Machubeng (23) was sentenced to seven years, Sifiso Magazi (24) was given five years and Brian Mariba (28) was handed the longest sentence with 15 years’ imprisonment.

Ivory Park Police Station communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane said all three were denied bail and have been in custody since they were arrested just hours after the crime. The victim was also assaulted by one of the hijackers.

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, station commander of the Ivory Park Police Station has welcomed the sentencing and said excellent work had been done during the investigation. He commended the lead detective, Warrant Officer Azwindini Khakhu, whose tireless efforts resulted in the conviction of the three.

“We are heartened by the fact that the hijacked vehicle has been found and the perpetrators have been given sentences they deserve,” said Ngcobo.
