Woman appears in Tembisa court for perjury

MIDRAND – Read about a perjury case recently heard in Tembisa Magistrates' Court.

 

A woman from Ebony Park in Midrand, appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 16 January on a charge of perjury after she opened a false case against her fiancé, who is a policeman, claiming that he pointed a firearm at her.

The couple allegedly had an argument emanating from a WhatsApp message which was apparently received on the woman’s cellphone. After the argument, the woman (32) opened a case of common assault against her fiancé and further alleged that he pointed a firearm at her during the alleged assault.

Spokesperson for Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane said after a case was opened, the police went to arrest the man and to confiscate his firearm. However, when interviewed further, the woman told police that even though she and her fiancé had had an argument, the suspect did not, at any stage, point a firearm at her or threaten her.

She was arrested for laying a false charge and was brought to the court to answer for this charge.

Station commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has expressed his disappointment with this and said, “Opening false cases constitutes a waste of State resources and further ruins reputations and careers and, as such, anyone opening a false case must take this into consideration. There are consequences.”
