Taximan shot dead

MIDRAND – Police believe a shooting incident may be related to taxi violence in the area.

 

The Ivory Park police are investigating the murder of man belonging to the Ivory Park Taxi Association after a shooting on the evening of 8 January in Ext 2.

Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane said, “It is alleged that the victim, who was in the company of his girlfriend, was shot several times by three men who got out of a red Volkswagen Polo.”

He said the vehicle arrived at the scene and, without warning, the occupants exited the vehicle and started firing shots at the victim (34), who was reportedly speaking to the driver of a car he had just scratched.

“It is said that as the two men were talking, the owner of the other car was also chatting on the phone, and that was when the vehicle with three armed occupants speedily arrived,” said Matimulane.

The victim was declared dead at the scene. His girlfriend was unharmed.

Police suspect the murder may be related to taxi violence in the area, but investigations are continuing. Twelve cartridges were found at the scene.
