Football awards recognise local talent
MIDRAND – Midrand Vichi Knights Football Club recognised the young football talent in the community during their annual football awards at Halfway House Primary.
The Midrand Vichi Knights Football Club held their annual football awards at Halfway House Primary on 5 November.
The club was established in 2012 as an avenue to promote the game of soccer among children in Midrand and surrounding areas.
The club is a non-profit organisation offering soccer training to children at no cost. They are currently self-funded through donations from parents and friends.
The football club currently has three teams playing in the North Rand Football Association (NRFA) – the U11, U13 and U15 teams.
“We originally started training children more than three years ago informally,” said head coach Tony Nair.
Training takes place at the Halfway Primary School in Midrand on Mondays and Wednesdays and home games also take place on Saturdays and Sundays. The club has 60 children and is affiliated to the NRFA.
The U13 team finished the year placed third in their league, the U14s won their league and the U15s were placed fifth.
“We also like to be a brand so that we can encourage more young kids to join our development programme in the Midrand area,” said Nair.
“As management and parents of Midrand Vichi Knights Football Club, we are totally committed to giving back to the community.”
