Sacred Heart pupil becomes one of the top 10 youngest writers

OBSERVATORY – Young author shares her journey in achieving a historic feat...

Sacred Heart College pupil, Michelle Nkamankeng, made history by becoming the youngest author from Africa to become one of the top 10 youngest writers in the world.

The seven-year-old achieved this impressive feat with the recent publication of her book, Waiting for the Waves, which tells the story of little Titi and her fear of the waves. In the story, Titi’s family helps her to conquer her fear during a visit to the beach.

Nkamankeng’s mother and manager, Lolo, explained her daughter’s journey to getting the book published and launched.

“Michelle started writing the book last year, the first of a four-book series, and we had no idea she was doing it all along,” Lolo said.

“I was so surprised but was proud of her because she managed to do it all by herself at the tender age of six.”

After the book was completed, Lolo explained that LANSM Events Management and Services company’s publishing division published the book.

Waiting for the Waves was launched in September at the University of the Witwatersrand in Parktown and again on 1 October and has, so far, received positive reviews.

A proud Lolo explained that their hope was to get the book to as many children and schools as possible.

“Michelle has said that she wants the whole world to read her book… and we are appealing to sponsors to help get it to as many kids as possible,” she concluded.

Those interested in purchasing Waiting for the Waves can contact Lolo or visit Nkamankeng’s Facebook page for more information.
