Woman nabbed for medical aid fraud

MIDRAND – Police nab a woman allegedly trying to use her sister's medical aid card at a private hospital in Midrand.

 

A woman was arrested for fraud by Rabie Ridge police officers on 19 September after she allegedly used her sister’s medical aid card at a private hospital in Midrand.

The sister of the suspect allegedly confirmed to Rabie Ridge police officers that her medical aid was indeed fraudulently used by her sister.

Spokesperson for Rabie Ridge Police Station, Captain Mofama Masela revealed that when the accused was questioned about the allegations, she denied it. “The accused denied five times that she had abused her sister’s medical card.

“It is alleged that the incident took place after the accused’s son was admitted to the hospital and her son refused to sign medical forms for theatre and confessed that the medical aid card that his mother was using for his treatment belongs to someone else.”

The woman was arrested and has appeared at Tembisa Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of fraud.

“The public is warned to take care of their valuables and stop giving information to suspicious or unknown people, even family members,” said Masela.
